BIOS / Firmware Update

This is an often-used option to update the software that is stored within the electronics of your system.  Hardware such as your computer's motherboard, adapter cards, and disk/CD/DVD drives, are intelligent devices that can perform many functions independently.  This reduces the workload on the rest of your system and improves overall performance.

This type of software is usually called firmware, microcode, or BIOS (Basic Input/Output System).  Updates for your piece of hardware are often necessary if you upgrade your operating system.  Hardware manufacturers update this software to fix problem and performance issues, particularly during the first year of production.

A friendly caution:  Incorrect use of the update functions, or a power failure during an update, usually means replacement of the hardware.  Evergreen, of course, guarantees its updates so you don't have to worry about the repercussions of power failures.

Plan on ½ to one hour for this.
