Hard Disk Installation / Replacement

This option is used when you wish to replace a failed disk, or when you wish to install an additional disk.  Mounting and cabling is done for you, and BIOS recognition and configuration of your new disk is verified.  At the end of this procedure, your new disk will still require partitioning, formatting, and (usually) data loading.

You may also be able to choose a high-performance disk at little more than the cost of your standard disk.  Depending on your computer's features (and we'll check this for you) you may be able to select one of these SATA-II drives to replace your current drive:

bulletNotebooks and Desktops:  The Western Digital Caviar Black SATA-II series, 7200-rpm, 3.0Gb/sec, 16MB/32MB cache memory, single/dual processor.
bulletDesktops:  The Western Digital VelociRaptor SATA-II series, 10,000-rpm, 3.0Gb/sec.
Note:  Manufacturers are starting to curtail production of EIDE/ATA drives in favor of the SATA interface.  Nevertheless, Western Digital still produces some high performance EIDE/ATA disks.

Note:  All new disks require partitioning and high-level (operating system) formatting.  If this is your only disk, or your system disk, it will also need the operating system and applications loaded.
