Operating System Version Upgrade

This option installs an "upgrade version" of an operating system (typically Windows/XP, Vista, or Windows 7) and replaces an existing installation (typically Windows/95/98/Me/2000/XP/Vista).

NOTE:  Windows 7 Upgrade is only possible from Vista.  If your system is Windows/XP, a fresh install of Windows 7 is required.  We don't consider the Windows 7 Upgrade to be completely free of problems, however, and we recommend a fresh install of Windows 7 whenever possible.

The current versions of your operating system, application software and hardware determine the steps we take to ensure a successful upgrade.  For an upgrade to either edition of Windows/XP, for example, we pass along Microsoft's recommendations:

bulletPC with 300 megahertz or higher processor clock speed recommended; 233 MHz minimum required (single or dual processor system); Intel Pentium/Celeron family, or AMD K6/Athlon/Duron family, or compatible processor recommended
bullet128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended (64 MB minimum supported; may limit performance and some features)
bullet1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available hard disk space
bulletSuper VGA (800 × 600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor
bulletCD-ROM or DVD drive
bulletKeyboard and Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device

If there are software applications that you wish to migrate to Windows 7, we will advise you if they are considered compatible by Microsoft.  If they're not, you should have them upgraded to a compatible version (usually, the latest version).

bulletIf your present system meets these minimum requirements, we recommend that you increase your memory to 2GB or more, if your system board supports it.  Memory is not expensive, and is well worth the investment.
bulletIf your present system does not meet minimum requirements, and you want to upgrade to Windows 7, we generally advise that you purchase a new system, pre-loaded with Windows 7, as a more-cost-effective solution. [Evergreen has chosen not to sell average systems, yet we are happy to offer any guidance you require.]

Plan on 2 to 6 hours for this service.  [Due to its complexity, we recommend this upgrade be done for you in our lab.]
