Recommendations for vinyl/cassette re-recording:  We are always pleased to convert your 33/45/78-rpm records and cassette tapes, yet we suggest that you first try to locate your recording in CD format at your music retailer.  These CD's are (often) made using the artists' original master tapes, and they are preferable to recording from distributed media.  If a master-recorded CD is not available, high-quality re-recording is the best option.

NOTE:  We are sometimes asked our opinion of Turntable/CD Recorders (by TEAC, Crosley, etc.) that record vinyl discs and produce a CD-R.  While you should research the features of each, they can be an acceptable way to digitize your vinyl collection for an investment of $200-$300.  These machines will not remove noise or clicks.  The next-better solution for the disc owner might be purchasing a professional CD Recorder for around $600-$800; a good source for these is at www.Sweetwater.com.  These recorders require an external turntable, but their CD quality can be quite good if used with a good turntable and stylus cartridge.

Whichever method you choose, keep in mind that you should be happy with the results.  Many people are quite happy with direct transcriptions, while others may want a better-quality recording.  If you don't like your recordings, you may never listen to them.  Nevertheless, depending on your situation, a good CD Recorder can be a viable option for you.

Media Conversion Note:  Any number of copies may be made of non-copyrighted audio.  Only one personal-use recording may be made from each of your copyrighted records or tapes.

bullet If your LP or cassette is in poor condition, we can try to get you a replacement.  Let us know, and we'll check availability.

Audio Hardware Services

We occasionally accept the following items for repair (see Audio Note):

bulletAM/FM receivers
bulletAudio amplifiers
bulletTurntables
bulletCassette tape players / decks

AUDIO NOTE:  Audio repairs are performed on a "best effort" basis; this is mostly due to lack of availability of model-unique parts.  Where a system is repairable, we charge only a modest fee plus our cost for parts and shipping.  As a general rule, we don't accept TV's, VCR's, or DVD players, mainly because repair costs for these usually approach the cost of a new unit.  (If you're determined to repair one of these units, we can recommend a service company that you can ship these items to for repair.)  If we accept your audio unit for repair and find that required parts are unobtainable, we will return the item to you at no charge.  [Extraordinary repair methods may be possible, if you are particularly fond of your equipment and don't want to do without it; let us know, and we'll see what we can do.]
